EL CARTEL

Synopsis

Martin Gonzalez is an ambitious and daring 15 year old boy from middle class Colombia. He is lured by the illegal drugs trafficking world with his friend Pepe, where he is quickly taken under the wings of regional drug boss, Oscar Cadena.

During this time, Martin and Pepe strengthen their friendship, while learning everything they can about the drug trade. They attain so much knowledge and experience, they decide to quit the drugs lab and begin sending their own cocaine to the United States while with Oscar.

While they begin this new venture, they find out Oscar Cadena, the drug boss, has partnered with the mighty Villegas Brothers, bosses of the West Cartel. This new empire unites to finish off the mightiest drug dealer of all times: Pablo Escobar.

As these drug lords celebrate the death of their worst enemy, the Villegas brothers suggest the dismantling of the drug business. Martin, who is just starting to make some money, is not willing to give up. Together with other young men, and under the protection of Oscar, Martin decides to confront his old bosses by telling them that he will not give up his business. The Pacific Cartel is about to be born, the most dangerous cartel ever in Colombia, under the leadership of Oscar Cadena.

As Martin watches his fortune grow, romance enters his life. He falls in love with Sofia, a beautiful young beauty pageant contestant. Martin doesn't want to tell her the source of his wealth. He lies about his business and success, but the money is so staggering, he can't hide the truth much longer. Sofia figures it out and tells him he has a choice: the drug business or her. Martin is willing to get out of the drug business, but he's in so deep, that he can't. Sofia finally accepts his love, hoping that one day her love will be able to overshadow the universe in which her husband is stuck.

Oscar helps the police to finish the West Cartel. The snitches (sapos) make the war between these criminal machineries reach a breaking point.
Martin refuses to take part in this war and decides to go to Miami with Sofia and his children, but what he does not know is that it is not a safe place anymore, and he must keep going with the old illegal activities, watching his old friends die by the enemy.

Business partners and brothers, dead or caught, forces Martin to run to Mexico looking for protection. He realizes too late that in this business; you can never win... So he becomes a sapo and tells his tale to the DEA.
